The football playoffs were exciting this year, and just
like the real Super Bowl, the Fantasy Jungle Playoff Challenge came down to the
last possession. When the smoke cleared, it was Jungle veteran Jason Krieger who
outlasted over 200 others to take home the championship and $5,000 prize. We had
a chance to catch up with Jason. Here is what he had to say.

FJ:
Well first off, congratulations on your big win.
Jason: Thanks!
FJ: Tell everyone a little about yourself
Jason: My name is Jason Krieger and I am 31
years old. I grew up in Fairfield, Iowa, moved to Tulsa, OK in 2000 but am
moving back to Iowa shortly.
FJ: What do you do for a living?
Jason: I do information security for a
telecom company.
FJ: Are
you married, do you have a family?
Jason: I am single, and I have a 3-yr old
son, Cooper.
FJ: How long have you been playing fantasy
football?
Jason: 10 years
FJ: What are your other hobbies, besides
playing fantasy?
Jason: I like to play golf, blackjack, and
surf the net, mainly to check out HawkeyeReport.com. I am a big Iowa Hawkeye
fan.
FJ: Who are your favorite teams?
Jason: The Iowa Hawkeyes of course, and the
Chicago Cubs.
FJ: Do you play any other fantasy games?
Jason: Mainly baseball and a little
basketball.
FJ: Did you have any special strategies
going into this contest, especially since the playoff contest was 4 weeks
instead of a full season?
Jason: I wanted to try and grab running
backs who catch a lot of passes, and grab quarterbacks who would probably be
playing from behind most of the game.
FJ: Going into the Super Bowl, it was a very
tight race. What was that game like for you, going into it?
Jason: Well, I debated and debated on
lineups, but in the end, went with my original gut feeling. I had a good idea
that the person in front of me (I entered the final week in 2nd place) was going
to take Brady because he had him the previous week, so I went with Donovan. I
liked his potential anyway, since I figured Philly would be playing from behind.
The QB decision was really the only thing I was concerned about, once the
lineups locked and I saw that the # 1 team took Brady, I was glad that at least
gave myself a chance to pass him at that key position.
FJ: When did you realize you had a chance to
win it all?
Jason: When the Eagles got the ball back
midway through the 4th quarter, I had McNabb and knew that he accounted for most
of the yards in a drive that resulted in a score. Additionally, I caught a major
break when Pinkston got hurt and Greg Lewis came in the game. As he spiked the
ball after catching McNabb’s TD toss late in the 4th my vertical leap reached an
all-time best. I was pretty excited!
FJ: What is a typical Sunday like for you?
Jason: I just watch the games wherever,
mostly at my home. I’ve never had Sunday Ticket but will probably take the
plunge soon. I also follow a lot of the games on the net (for the stats, fantasy
stuff).
FJ: What aspect of the Jungle do you like
the most?
Jason:
It’s just a lot of fun. Extremely easy to use, most everyone knows (or gets to
know) each other, and Mike and Scott are good people and their scoring ideas and
overall game format is very appealing to me.
FJ: Would you recommend the Jungle to
anyone, and if they are on the fence, what would you say to those people?
Jason: Absolutely. All I’d say is that I’ve
been playing fantasy for 10+ years and this last year (I played baseball,
football, the college bowl contest, NFL playoff contest all with the Jungle) and
it has been the most fun I’ve ever had playing.
FJ: Last question, and one of the important
ones. What do you plan on doing with your prize money!
Jason: Viva las Vegas!
